CUPE Manitoba is calling on the provincial government to pass proposed amendments to The Residential Tenancies Act (Bill 13) and immediately implement updates to The Residential Rent Regulations.
“We applaud the Manitoba NDP government for prioritizing affordability for working-class Manitobans,” said Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba.
“CUPE fights for better wages for working people, but we also recognize that tenants and people experiencing housing insecurity urgently need greater protections, including thousands of front-line workers.”
While there is still much work to do to rebalance tenant legislation in favour of actual renters, CUPE is concerned that Obby Khan and the Manitoba PCs’ delays will hurt Manitoba families.
“Obby Khan and the PCs need to stop playing games with Manitoba renters and show support for the government’s efforts in addressing the affordability crisis,” urged McKay.
CUPE issued a letter to the Premier and the Minister of Public Service Delivery urging the government to prevent further delay and pass Bill 13 during the fall legislative session.
